On the Block

I love when my husband or my brother sends me articles from the papers they read.  A recent WSJ article titled The Girl With the Golden Wardrobe immediately caught my attention.  Through the last 40 years, actress Debbie Reynolds has acquired an extensive collection of film costumes and props.  After several failed attempts to get her collection housed in a museum, she is forced to auction off some of Hollywood's most iconic ensembles.  See the full article and more photos here and plan to get your bids ready by June 18.

Marilyn Monroe's famous white halter dress is estimated sell for $1 million to $2 million.

Elizabeth Taylor's headdress from "Cleopatra."

Audrey Hepburn's Cecil Beaton designed gown for "My Fair Lady."

Charlie Chaplin's bowler hat from "The Tramp."

Judy Garland's ruby red slippers from "The Wizard of Oz."

A Good Egg

For a long time now I've been wanting an egg chair.  I'm not a fan of modern furniture for the most part and the shape of these chairs feels that way but so often they share space with more traditional pieces and I love the mix.  At some point in the near future, I WILL have one of these puppies.  And I'm going for one that hangs since they seem more fun and carefree.

The Puffy Shirt

I'm not a trendsetter and I don't consider myself trendy.  I like to stay current but I always remain true to what I actually like and what feels right.  Otherwise I'd feel like a clown.

When Ashley Olsen walked the red carpet at the Met Gala, she looked gorgeous.  I loved her hair and make-up and I liked her dress but I was overwhelmed by those sleeves.  And now my go-to, Style.com is in the mood for poufy sleeves.  I never say never but right now, I'm thinking I'll sit this one out.

What do you think of these voluminous arms?

I think I could work with the style below where the pouf seems manageable.

But would I not feel like Seinfeld?

Wind Beneath My Dress

I've been lazy about outfit posts but haven't given up on the notion entirely.  I think it will be easier to take pictures this summer when I'm not insanely busy with a full time job.  When these shots came in last night from photographer turned dear friend, Kate Mefford, I felt the urge to post them and I'm justifying it having convinced myself it's a glorified (and magnificently photoshopped) outfit post.

Kate shot our wedding last year in Austin and even with the distance between us, our friendship has continued to grow.  On a recent trip to NYC I solicted her help and fine photo taking skillz and we had ourselves a ball on a cold, really windy afternoon in my 'hood.  See more of her fun photos here

A Cut Above

Another red carpet brings more cut-out dresses.  Sunday night's Billboard Awards, like many music award shows, displayed a broad spectrum of gowns... some glamourous, others hard to look at.  But similar to the Met Gala and several other red carpets this season, many a dress offered a peek at the bods of the ladies wearing them.

While certainly no shortage of styles, these cut-out dresses are not all winners.

If you're into this look and want to show off you summer tan, here are a few dresses available to you now.

A Look Inside

Not too long ago I posted about stylish entry ways and a reader requested that I post pictures of mine.  Well, here you have it!  I love our entry and it's mix of old and new.  The zebra benches are modern and my favorite pieces, but I love the super old Chinese console table as well.  The crystal lamp is great for additional hall lighting and together with the orchid, provides an anchor for the space.  I leaned a vintage sunburst mirror against a newer piece of art.  Coffee table books are always great for another layer and the porcelain horse is one of my favorite etsy finds.

I'd love to see and share pictures of your entry as well.  Email me by Friday and I'll post your pictures next week.

On the Bench

The kitchen photo above is one I've had **starred**, filed, and put away as the very look I want as we rebuild our house out east.  The only caveat was the built-in bench because I wasn't sure I'd want something so fixed.  I like the flexibility of movement when it comes to furniture but as I've looked more and more, I'm thinking I like this whole bench thing.  So far, my favorite use for one is between bookshelves and for the intended purpose of providing a cozy spot to read.  A window with a view certainly would not hurt.

Upon close inspection, this may not really be a built-in but I love the paper, mirror, etc so I wanted to include.

South by Southwest

It may be tough to differentiate between the tribal trend, (wild wild) western wear and southwestern wear but they are different - albeit all relevant to fashion today.  A spring trend that's been showing up on fall runways, I'm seeing it now in the "what's new" section on a lot of my favorite websites.  I like what's to offer in both fashion and interiors... but of course it's no surprise that I gravitate toward an all white palette with most of my home pics.

From accessories to apparel, there is no shortage of aztec inspired goods.  But just like anything else, you've got to do it in small doses.  Don't go head to toe navajo.  I'm in love with those amazing shorts which I'd pair with a denim button down and short Frye boots and I have coveted that dress since Lourdes wore it to the Vanity Fair Oscar party.

Little White Dress

Since I'm on a mission to look like Penelope Cruz a la these photos, and considering working on my tan is out of the question with perpetual rain, I'll have to make do with wearing white lace and dying my hair brown.  OK I'm kidding about the hair but how I do love these sweet white frocks.  For now, I'd wear them with a fitted leather jacket to bring a little edge and to keep me warm.

A Girl Can Dream

Today I'd like to 1) be brunette 2) wear said brunette locks in a long messy braid 3) have a sun-kissed tan 4) wear head to toe white lace 5) chill on a Spanish-style patio.  It's safe to say Mario Testino did a nice job here.  Penelope Cruz is lookin' goooooooood in the June issue of Vogue.
