The Obligatory Orchid

Have you ever noticed that in nearly every magazine-worthy home, there is an orchid?  Don't get me wrong, I love an orchid like the next person but I find it interesting that no matter your style, an orchid seemingly fits into the picture.  My love is there but my skill at caring for one is not, which is why I often opt for one of the faux variety.  My orchid from Crate & Barrel works well but the finer fakes are found at Diane James Home or NDI.

Snake Charmer

Just when you thought my allegiance was with leopard print, I go and switch it up.  I recently bought a Rebecca Minkoff dress at the Saks Off 5th outlet and I adore it.  While I tend to choose an accessory over apparel with trends like these, I somehow convinced myself believe the dress is subtle and not too much.  And while I still adore leopard, sometimes it's nice to mix it up.

I Heart New York

The Hubs and I just walked in the door after several days in Louisville, KY where he became an Ironman!  I've never quite understood his extreme sports but I fully support him and was the happiest and most proud wife watching him yesterday.  He did extremely well and we are both relishing in his accomplishment.  While we loved Louisville and appreciated completely dodging the Irene hype, we are so happy to be back in cool, crisp NYC.  I truly love this city.

The Basics

Sometimes the best looks are the least contrived.  With each season there are so many trends to try, which I do love... but there are times when I feel like slipping into something that is simple and easy.  There is nothing overdone about these looks, yet they still look stylish and pulled together.

Trainspotting

Seeing lots of dresses that are minis in the front, maxis in the back.  I think I likey and let's be honest, if Olivia Palermo's doing it... it must be right.  They offer the rare chance at being both sexy and demure.  What do you think of this train trend?

Cheap & Chic

Sometimes I see Old Navy sourced on my favorite personal style blogs so when I passed it today, I decided to pop in.  At first I was overwhelmed and not finding much but I stumbled by this 3/4 sleeve maxi dress that is on sale this week for $25.  Remembering my black H&M sleeveless maxi that I basically live in, I decided it was smart to pick up one that will take me into fall.  I'm planning to style it like Rachel Zoe has, with a wide leather belt and a great bag.

p.s. I'm not sure if it's on sale online but it's still not bad pricewise, if you happen to still want it when the promotion is over.

The Great esCape

Last fall I bought the cutest camel cape from Zara so I'm glad to see them back in action.  They are so comfortable and chic and can easily be paired with jeans for a casual look or dressed up and polished. While they are not necessarily the warmest of coats, it is nice to have an alternative to the puffer for a change of pace in the long lasting winter months.

Fall Looks to Love

Burberry Prorsum {similar styles here and here}

It is 66 and sunny right now in NYC!  I just stepped out for Starbucks and could have worn a light jacket.  Nevermind that it will be in the 80's later, at this moment it feels like fall is setting in...  Americana Manhasset always has a gorgeous lookbook, and this year is no exception.  Even if I can't afford all of the clothes from these high end boutiques, it's always fun to see what they feature and find ways to pull it off at a more modest price point.
