12 Days of Wish Lists

I am looking forward to taking part {on day 12!} of the 12 Days of Christmas guest posts on a {little} dash of ash.  She's hosting 12 bloggers starting tomorrow who will roll out their wish lists and gift guides.  I can't wait to see what everyone has come up with!  Be sure to stop by daily for great gift ideas....

Below is the lineup:

Art by Peter Tunney

Ever since I stepped in to a friends apartment and saw the "Please Don't Judge Me" piece below, I have loved the work of Peter Tunney.  Usually not a fan of color, his bold pieces with thoughtful messages instantly captured my interest.  With our move and subsequent redecorating (or rather adding to fill our more spacious home), I am committed to setting aside a decent budget for art.  While one of his pieces could totally blow my wad, I am already thinking it could be Christmas and birthday and everything else (for the next 10 years).  Turns out his studio is in Tribeca only streets away so a visit will most def be fit into my extremely tight schedule.... we move in only 19 days.

Gratitude + Attitude

A super talented girlfriend of mine can actually create very similar works of art.  Once her website is up and running and she's taking orders, I will share her info in case you are interested in getting the look for less!

First things first, we are back from our wonderful Parisian getaway and while I feel run down and sick, the travel and going non-stop was totally worth it.  Thanks to all of you who have entered the GIVEBACK!  Now that I have a working laptop I plan to visit all of your sites to say thanks but until then, know I'm grateful for your support and look forward to seeing who's charity will be chosen.

I've noticed a growing collection of vests in my closet and while I love them, I never really wear them.  Comfortably.  While there are simpler ways to don a vest, I am now gravitating toward throwing them (the faux fur ones of course) over a light jacket.  A blazer, thin leather jacket or even a chunky sweater...  I think part of the trouble before was feeling a little bulky so taking the vest to the outer most layer is a simple and chic solution.

If you haven't already, make sure to enter to win the giveback!  You and your charity of choice stand to gain.  Win/win!

Stunning Stark Apartment

Please feast your eyes on this sicko apartment on the UES, home to Ashley Stark of the Stark family (home furnishings) fame.  Ashley renovated her 3,000 sq ft apartment in a Rosario Candela building which is the same building she grew up in, keeping it's great bones and charm but allowing for a more livable space.  Not your average 30 year old's bachelorette pad, is it?!?

Parisian Holiday

We are off to Paris this afternoon for the long weekend and as of now, I am sans laptop.  Hopefully I will be able to pick it up on the way out of town but either way, THANK YOU to those of you who have entered the GIVEBACK and please know I loved reading your comments yesterday (from my iPhone).   Your enthusiasm and support is much appreciated.

Tis the season... [to give back]

Confession: one of the most challenging parts of writing this blog is spending so much time and energy on clothes and shoes and things that seem superficial.  It's a larger internal struggle as I do care about how I look (self love) while having a heart that longs to give and work to make things better for the causes that are closest to my heart.  So from time to time, and I think the holidays are one of the most appropriate times, it's good to stop for a moment and realign my focus.

I've worried that this giveaway will fall flat, but one of the things I appreciate most about our generation is that we are more conscious, and aware and empowered to do something about things that really matter.  So I hope you will join me by sharing what cause means a lot to you and together we'll give back a little something that can help a child, an animal, the environment or whatever it is that you feel strongly about.

I'm hoping this does not come off preachy in any way...  Trust me I like a new (designer) bag like the next person.  And no one says you can't have a good heart and good shoes.  Just trying to strike a balance.... are you with me!?
You may be asking yourself, what can $100 really do to help?  It's pretty amazing actually, that so little can go so far in most cases.  For example...

Because I know we all love a little something to take home, the winner of this giveback will ALSO receive a python 'Kendal' bangle from {presmer}.  The talented designer is generously donating a portion of the proceeds to your charity as well.  Seriously, win/win!

Rules of the game:

1. sign up to follow Strong Sense of Style blog
2. follow me on Twitter and tweet about the giveback
3. follow Strong Sense of Style on Facebook

For all entries (up to 3 per person) please leave a comment on this post letting me know how you have entered and if you know how you'd use this donation, please share!

I will announce the winner next Thursday, December 1st so all entries need to be in by Wednesday evening, November 30th at 9:00 p.m.

Fashion Illustrations by Dallas Shaw

I am running to the mailbox 3 times a day, anxiously awaiting my Dallas Shaw illustration.  I've long been coveting these little masterpieces but only recently (told my Hubs he) pulled the trigger and placed the order.  I can't wait to have this baby hanging on my gallery wall in my new home office.  I'm pretty sure I can't show you the final product but I've found several online that I wanted to share.

Be sure to check back later this week as I'll be announcing the first ever Strong Sense of Style giveaway, and it's a little different than you think....

Mixing Prints

Pair 1: Madewell City Storyteller Scarf, Boy. Band of Outsiders Striped Cotton-blend Top, Citizens Avedon Skinnies
Pair 2: Rachel Comey Candela Blouse (dress here), Old Navy Jersey Pencil Skirt, KJL 22k Gold-plated Resin Necklace

I have been looking forward to this post all week!  Probably because it takes far less guts to blog about it than it does to wear it.  I'm learning to treat stripes as a basic backdrop for any print to accompany but the plaid + leopard is something I have yet to try.  With winter comes layers and the perfect opportunity to work this trend into your daily routine.  Are you feeling it or "luving from afar?"
